About Dirt dogs

Our Story

Central Florida Dirt Dog Inc. was started in 2012 by South Eastern Fastpitch Owner Russel Pierce. With the idea of starting a nonprofit travel softball team, his main focus was to give equal opportunity to all athletes. Allowing them the chance to play at a high level of competition, no matter the family income. Pierce truly believed in the growth of the player and developed a team where all were welcome. In 2021 the organization was handed over to close friend, Wills Wassey. Wassey has been coaching youth softball alongside Pierce for 8 years. With a passion for training and conditioning, Wassey strives to grow the organization under the same values and morals. His vibrant coaching style, on and off the field, focuses on putting the athletes first and honing in on the fundamentals of playing ball.

Our Mission

The goal of the Dirt Dogs softball organization is to develop young ladies into prime athletes, physically and mentally. All girls are given an equal chance of becoming high-level athletes, regardless of income level.

What It Takes To Be a Coach

1- Love for the athletes and the game.

2- Unselfishness. Everything you do is for the benefit of the athlete.

3- Time, dedication and commitment. We strive to always be there for our athletes, on and off the field.

4- Be open-minded and willing to listen and learn from any encounter. Take the positives from all situations and teach that to our athletes.

5- Stick to our own agenda and trusting the process. We don’t worry about other coaching styles. We stay strong minded even in un-idealistic situations.

6- Understand our influence on young athletes.

7- Preparation and organization. We always have plans going in and out of any encounter.

8- Challenge ourselves and other coaches. Constantly evaluate ourselves. Make sure we are trying our best at all times.
